Built on the strength of public donations, Maaedicare Charitable Foundation – a pillar for Malaysian dialysis patients – introduced its Legacy Giving Program, calling on donors to leave a legacy of compassion and sustain life-saving healthcare services for years to come.
Chief Executive Officer of Maaedicare Charitable Foundation, Ms. Anne Rajasaikaran said more than a program, legacy giving is a lifeline.
“Maaedicare’s legacy giving initiative offers a powerful way to stand with those desperately fighting kidney and heart disease, and provide them with the critical care they need to survive. We invite generous donors to be a part of a legacy that will break down barriers and ensure no one is left behind when it comes to healthcare access,’’ she said.
Anne emphasised that by including Maaedicare in their estate plans, individuals can actively create a meaningful and lasting impact on their community.
“It’s a chance for our wonderful supporters to make sure Maaedicare can keep reaching people struggling with kidney and heart disease. By taking this step, our donors are directly safeguarding healthcare access for underserved communities,” she said after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with law firm Sim & Rahman Advocates and Solicitors, yesterday.
The strategic move will enable both existing and new donors to plan future contributions to Maaedicare through various avenues, such as bequests in wills, donations of retirement assets, life insurance policies, and charitable gift annuities or trusts.
“We’re talking about protecting access to life-saving care for those who need it most. We truly believe this is a powerful way for anyone to make a real, lasting difference in our community and help us address the multifaceted challenges faced by our 768 patients on a daily basis.
“Imagine the struggle: no car, no money, and a life-saving treatment you can barely afford. That’s the reality for many of our patients. They face transportation challenges, limited access to dialysis centers, and overwhelming health issues. But the biggest burden is financial. Dialysis is incredibly expensive, and for those without insurance or savings, each session means digging deeper into debt. It’s a heartbreaking situation,’’ Anne noted.
She stated that these legacy giving will be crucial for bolstering Maaedicare’s financial stability, allowing the Foundation to pursue its objective of delivering accessible healthcare.
Anne further noted that legacy gifts will also continue to support subsidised dialysis treatments at 11 dialysis centres, heart health assessments at the Cardiac Diagnostic Centre, and complimentary health screenings via Klinik Amal Percuma.
Aside from this, the new initiative is expected to contribute to long-term financial stability and support for Maaedicare’s mission of providing affordable healthcare. With increased resources, Maaedicare will reach more underserved populations and address critical healthcare needs in the country.
